Apparently, California is putting an end to racial segregation during lock downs. But what I find interesting, is that I have never even heard of them doing that before. I knew that prisons would do lock downs if they were having problems with inmates, but separating the inmates by race? Almost seems extreme to me. Almost. I understand why they would do it, but I almost think that would aggravate the situation again once the inmates were put back into their original cells.

Do you think this is a step in the right or wrong direction in removing racism? Or, do you think it is inapplicable?
I think that it could be a good or bad step in both directions. I agree with you that it can help them once they are separated but what happens when they are put back together? Do they treat each other the same way they were treating each other before? Either way I think you are still going to have someone be able to turn it into racism.
ReplyDeleteThis shows that racism is still happening in our country. Here in Utah we don't see it because most of the people living here are middle class white citizens. I think that problem is still in the older citizens who are alive during the civil rights movement and these people may still have racism views. We need to do our country a favor and not repeat history with racism. I think that the ending of segregation during the lock downs is a positive move.
ReplyDeleteCaitlyn, I had the same thoughts as you. Simply separating two people from each other for a few days after a fight isn't going to change their thoughts towards each other. Just like how separating two kids after one stole the others toy isn't going to change their thoughts.
ReplyDeleteShauntae, I totally see your point about all of Utah being pretty much white. There are only a few people at our school who aren't white. Do you know if this is a policy our justice system here in Utah uses, separating races?
